With the new year we got a new baby: an Original Heidelberg Cylinder KS-B!
Why have we done this? Well, we could not say better than the first sentences of the handbook:

It is probably beyond any doubt that the wellknown Original Heidelberg Cylinder of the larger format conquered the world market like no other machine of this class and found the recognition of all domestic and foreign experts. It is the indispensable machine for all modern printers now. As the Original Heidelberg Cylinder was set in batteries by the leading letterpress printers in all countries of the world, this is a proof that one has recognized its unrivaled advantages for efficient and profitable execution of print jobs.

Most of these machines eke out a sad existence, and are solely used for die cutting. Our Cylinder is from a veteran letterpress printer and we will use it for its real destination. So, from now on we can do letterpress up to a sheet size of 58.5 x 40.0 cm. Being able to die cut up to this sheet size is a nice side effect!

Sometime we need better tools than just a linen tester. Checking this business card resulted in such a funny picture we just wanted to show to our readers. Going into detail with 200x magnification: 4 color process, transparent foil stamping and a blind embossing on a microembossed cardboard – looks a little chaotic, doesn’t it? It looks a lot better with the naked eye.

Today there is a party going on in Hamburg on the occasion of NPIRE’s fifth anniversary. But that’s not all there is to celebrate. NPIRE has a new corporate design and we had the pleasure to help business cards and letterheads become real. The idea behind this project seemed daring and appealing: a blind embossing that gets overprinted using an inkjet for personalization. If this would come to a good ending? We just got to know that The Gap Between stationary received a 2010’s iF Communication Awards 2010. 1.687 submissions from 26 countries competed for the desired trophy. We’re proud and happy to have contributed to the project and it’s award.

Edge colouring resounds throughout the land. Bölling is giving impetus to this trend fo a while now. The colour palette und possibilities are huge. Our latest breakthrough: preciously blazing metallics - with high abrasion resistance. Coloured substrates - even black ones - can be decorated using this technique. I made the first poster by Cameron Moll as a present to my dad on christmas 2 years ago. This present hit the bull’s eye – believe me. Every time I see the poster, I ask myself is it the calligraphy, which impresses me so much or is it the letterpress. Anyway, I do not need to analyze all details just to come to the clue that it is breathtaking. That’s waht I say and everybody we showed this pice of art.

The latest work of Cameron is titled «Collosseo;raquo;. The artist was inspired by a trip to Rome:

This project began 12 months ago when Suzanne and I purchased tickets to Rome. It’s consumed a good portion of my working life since then. This is a sneak preview.

The above picture was taken with a Hubero Kororo Rubikon 2. A PDF-file of the paper cut-out can be on the website. After a little while one can start the photography fun. Nope, I’m not talking about brisque and sharp pictures with billions of pixels – atmosphere guaranteed nontheless.
